“To Perceive Together” from Janel Garza to Be Featured at Art Farm Iowa
Art Farm Iowa has acquired the work “To Perceive Together” from Arizona artist Janel Garza. The 18’ x 6’ work will be a feature work at Art Farm Iowa. The work was developed to be a mobile mural and was completed for the 11th annual Art d’Core Gala, hosted by Artlink at The Phoenix Art Museum. Garza collaborated with the visionary fashion designer Ruby Farias who developed complementary fashions.
Inspired by the Gala’s theme, "Panorama," the painting reflects the expansive beauty of the Southwest landscape through an abstract lens. Over 100 hours were dedicated to crafting "To Perceive Together," a monumental painting that stood as a centerpiece among the Gala’s distinguished guests.
Garza’s signature artistic style of combining patterns, symmetry, and natural colors evoke the same feeling as Frank Lloyd Wright drawings and designs, which are not only prevalent in the Southwest, but also nearby to Art Farm Iowa as being a pre-eminent region of Prairie School Architecture.
“To Perceive Together” was shown at the The Phoenix Art Museum and has had the opportunity to inhabit several beautiful spaces, owing to its mobile nature. It’s now found a permanent home at Art Farm Iowa.
ABOUT JANEL
Arizona based artist and designer, Janel Garza, has been developing her distinct style since childhood. As the daughter of an elementary art schoolteacher, Janel was introduced to an array of artistic mediums at an early age. In this environment, Janel learned to freely dive into whatever creative endeavors she felt drawn. While her main medium is acrylic paint, Garza continues to work with a variety of materials. Whether it’s delicate wood jewelry, hand-dyed textiles, or large-scale murals, Janel’s distinct aesthetic is ever present.
Janel’s current work has been heavily influenced by the surrounding Sonoran Desert, a passion for medicinal plant studies, and the clean, orderly shapes found in modernist architecture. Rather than expressing an overt message, the aim of her work is to create an abstract sentiment with a sense of balance, harmony, and interconnectedness.
