Join us for an immersive Tortilla Workshop and Artist Introduction, hosted by Art Farm Iowa, featuring interdisciplinary artist Estephania González. Using heirloom corn grown by Art Farm Iowa, Estephania will explore the deep cultural and spiritual significance of corn in Aztec civilization and share how it influences her artistic practice. After the introduction, you'll engage in a hands-on tortilla-making session, learning traditional methods such as grinding kernels on a metate, pressing masa, and cooking tortillas. Whether you're passionate about history, food traditions, or experiential learning, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to connect with ancient practices and contemporary art. No experience necessary—just bring curiosity and a willingness to participate!
RSVP your attendance by e-mail artfarmiowa@gmail.com by May 15th.
ABOUT ESTEPHANIA
Estephania González is a Phoenix-based multimedia artist from the Midwest. Through the use of video, installation, performance, and writing, she explores concepts of spacetime and cosmologies from both physics and indigenous narratives, and how they intersect with personal identity. González does this by exploring the complexities of the question, where are you from? This question becomes the foundation for the majority of her work.
Gonzalez received her MFA in Intermedia from Arizona State University. She received a BFA in Performance Art and BA in Art History from the University of Northern Iowa. She has been a resident at Guapamacataro, Michoacan Mexico, and La Wayaka Current in the Atacama Desert in Chile.
